Jim Brander: Humans have a limit of four pieces of information in play in their Conscious Mind – more than that, and the extra information is clumped (made constant). This has a serious effect on the sorts of problems they can handle, and the solutions they can come up with – piecemeal, short term, many blind spots. The limit does not go away if we attempt to use collaboration among specialists. An example of that was during the Covid pandemic – economists and epidemiologists were brought in to advise the government – they ended up talking past each other, each lacking an understanding of the other’s vocabulary and motivation. This website is intended to highlight the problem, and suggest ways around it. The most obvious way is to use a machine which has an English language interface, an ability to comprehend complex many-layered problems, and does not have a Four Pieces Limit. We give links to associated websites where the technology of such a machine is explained.
